This month, we’re shining the spotlight on Pauwel, a dedicated and passionate team member who has been with Cloudar for 9 remarkable years. His expertise in AWS and his drive for continuous improvement have greatly contributed to our success. Join us as we dive into Pauwel’s experiences, memories, and milestones at Cloudar, and discover what makes him such a cherished member of our cloud community.

What do you like about working for Cloudar?

Working at Cloudar has been an incredible journey for me over the past 9 years. I’m deeply inspired by the cloud computing industry, especially AWS, which has been our primary focus. The projects we undertake are challenging and rewarding, allowing me to constantly learn and grow. The open communication, lack of bureaucracy, and the freedom to innovate make Cloudar a fantastic place to work. Above all, I cherish the talented and supportive people I get to collaborate with every day.

What memory or anecdote will with stick you?

One memory that will always stick with me is our annual team weekend getaway. It’s an epic event filled with booze, BBQs, and late nights of bonding with colleagues who have become close friends. I particularly enjoy helping out at the BBQ portion every year, grilling up delicious food for everyone. The weekend is a blur of fun activities, cool games, and an excellent breakfast spread to cure any lingering headaches. It’s the perfect way to unwind and strengthen the camaraderie that makes Cloudar so special.

What’s your most important work milestone so far?

My most significant professional milestone has been achieving the DevOps Pro and Architect Pro level certifications for AWS. These certifications represent the culmination of years of continuous learning and hands-on experience building cloud solutions. I take great pride in being able to migrate customers seamlessly from on-premises infrastructure to the cloud. At Cloudar, I’ve truly become a jack-of-all-trades, constantly expanding my skills across the full cloud technology stack. Every day brings new challenges that allow me to grow as a cloud professional.

Welcome to another exciting edition of our “Employee in the Spotlight” series! Today, we’re delighted to feature Dieter Tuerlinckx, our dedicated Project and Service Delivery Manager. Join us as we explore Dieter’s contributions and inspiring journey at Cloudar.

What do you like about working for Cloudar?

Since joining Cloudar in 2016, I’ve had the privilege of being part of an incredible team that feels more like a family than just colleagues. One of the standout aspects of working here is the genuine camaraderie among us. Over the years, some of my coworkers have become friends, and this has enriched my professional experience immeasurably.

The atmosphere at Cloudar strikes the perfect balance between a relaxed and flexible work environment and a no-nonsense, results-driven mentality. We’re encouraged to bring our authentic selves to work, and this authenticity is reflected in the positive and supportive atmosphere that permeates the office.

What I love most about working at Cloudar is the combination of a great team, flexibility, and a fantastic atmosphere. Whether we’re sharing a laugh or collaborating on a project, there’s always a sense of mutual respect and understanding that makes every day enjoyable. I couldn’t ask for a better place to work or a better group of people to work alongside.

What memory or anecdote will with stick you?

One of the most exhilarating and unforgettable experiences I’ve had at Cloudar was attending the World Cup Bobsleigh event in Winterberg with the team. It was a thrilling adventure that combined our shared love for sports, the great outdoors and good food and drinks.

The Winterberg trip is just one of the many memorable experiences I’ve had at Cloudar. Whether it’s the annual team weekends, intense LAN parties and karting races, or the countless inside jokes and shared moments that are better left unsaid, what happens at Cloudar truly stays at Cloudar.

These experiences are a testament to the unique culture and atmosphere that makes working at Cloudar so special. It’s not just about the work we do; it’s about the relationships we build and the unforgettable memories we create together.

What’s your most important work milestone so far?

One of the most significant milestones in my career at Cloudar has been transitioning from a technical role to a business-oriented one as a Project and Service Delivery Manager. This opportunity not only allowed me to expand my skill set but also provided a unique chance to contribute to the company’s growth and success in a new capacity.

This has been a defining moment in my career at Cloudar, reinforcing the company’s commitment to nurturing talent and providing opportunities for professional growth. I am grateful for the trust and support I’ve received and look forward to contributing further to the company’s success in the future.

Welcome to another exciting edition of our “Employee in the Spotlight” series! Today, we’re thrilled to introduce you to Jente, a key member of our #AWSome CloudOps Team. Join us as we delve into Jente’s unique and inspiring journey at Cloudar.

What do you like about working for Cloudar?

You know that feeling when work doesn’t feel like work? That’s what I get here. There’s this awesome vibe in my CloudOps Team where we can crack jokes and share funny moments, but when issues/urgent tasks arise, I can blindly count on my team to have my back and they will stand by me to solve anything.
Over time, the people I work with have become friends. We often find ourselves hanging out after hours, going out for dinner or drinks, and teaming up in online games. And it’s not just us in CloudOps; this camaraderie can be found throughout the entire company. Whether it’s a consultant or a manager, everyone’s ready to roll up their sleeves when things get tough.

The fact that a work-related environment can turn out to become something like this makes me enjoy my work, I always look forward to office days to hang out with everyone because of that.

What memory or anecdote will stick with you?

We were all set for a team dinner after office hours, but just as we were about to leave, a critical issue popped up. Without hesitation, my entire team immediately sat down again and helped out where they could. We stayed until the customer gave us the green light and rushed to the all-you-can-eat restaurant (a bit late, but hey!). We had an amazing night; we ate, drank, laughed, and I realized something – This wasn’t just a gathering with colleagues, but a get-together of close friends who have each other’s backs.

What’s your most important work milestone so far?

For me personally, I’d say growing as a person.
AWS contains hundreds of services and I don’t think a day goes by where I don’t learn anything new when solving issues. So technical-wise, my knowledge has grown substantially by joining Cloudar, we have some really clever people running around who also happen to be very open to sharing knowledge and helping you out.

So yeah, that’s my Cloudar story. It’s more than a job; it’s a place where I’ve found friends, faced challenges together, and grown more than I ever thought possible. Here’s to more laughs, learnings, and all-you-can-eat dinners!

In the dynamic realm of IT, certifications validate your expertise in technologies, serving as crucial benchmarks. They’re not just personal achievements but also reflect positively on organizations. Let’s examine how a joint effort between employees and employers in pursuing certifications benefits both parties.

For employees

Career Growth

Certifications are the stepping stones for advancing your career. They give you that extra edge or open doors to new opportunities and higher roles within the organization and beyond. Moreover, they serve as tangible evidence of your commitment to professional development.

Job satisfaction

They also contribute to job satisfaction by allowing you to specialize in your preferred area. When you’re able to focus on what you’re passionate about and thrive in it, job satisfaction naturally follows, leading to increased productivity and engagement.

Personal growth

They provide a sense of pride and accomplishment that can boost your confidence and motivation in tackling new challenges. Each certification achieved represents a milestone in your professional journey, pushing you to strive for further growth.

For employers:

Increase organizational competence

Certified employees enhance organizational competence, bringing new skills and deeper understanding of technologies to the table. This not only improves the overall performance of the team but also ensures that the organization remains competitive in the rapidly evolving IT landscape.

Enhance reputation

AWS certifications are instrumental in achieving the status of an AWS Premier Partner and are an excellent way to attract and convince prospects. By investing in certifications for their employees, employers can bolster their reputation as industry leaders and trusted experts in their field.

Fosters continuous learning

Employer support in this journey shows a commitment to nurturing talent and fosters a culture of continuous learning. When employees feel supported in their pursuit of certifications, they are more likely to stay engaged and motivated, leading to a more skilled and resilient workforce. Additionally, fostering a culture of continuous learning helps organizations adapt to changes more effectively and stay ahead of the curve.

At Cloudar, we fully commit to the growth of our team and provide the resources, support, and time needed to excel in our careers and achieve our professional goals. Recognizing the symbiotic relationship between our team’s growth and the success of our company, we empower our employees to pursue certifications, fostering a mutually beneficial environment where individual development fuels organizational excellence.

Welcome to another exciting edition of our “Employee in the Spotlight” series! In this post, we’re featuring Tom Saron, who joined the Cloudar family in April 2022. Let’s dive into Tom’s experiences at Cloudar and learn more about what makes his journey with us so exciting.

What do you like about working for Cloudar?

Flexibility:

Cloudar not only values professional growth but actively fosters it. From technical development to certifications, workshops, and training opportunities, there’s always room to enhance skills. Striking a healthy work-life balance is essential to me, and Cloudar understands and supports this balance seamlessly.

“No Bullshit” Mentality:

Communication is open, honest, and direct. If a challenge arises, the team is readily available for discussions. At Cloudar, every problem is an opportunity to collaborate and find solutions together.

Flat Hierarchy and Mutual Respect:

Cloudar stands out with its non-hierarchical, horizontal structure. Management respects each employee, erasing taboos around knowledge, seniority, or experience. It’s a place where everyone supports one another without judgment, fostering an environment of continuous learning and open dialogue.

What memory or anecdote will stick with you?

Reflecting on memorable experiences, the Cloudar weekend of 2023 stands out. In an era where remote work prevails, having the entire team gather at Vielsalm was a rare and cherished occasion. The warmth of the campfire, shared conversations, and delightful food and drinks made it a truly special and unforgettable time.

What’s your most important work milestone so far?

My most crucial professional milestone at Cloudar has been daring to transition to a more challenging role that demanded a broader knowledge base. This move was pivotal for building resilience and proving to myself that I could adapt flexibly to new challenges. Embracing this change allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and embrace growth.

At Cloudar, we believe in empowering our team to take the lead. Andy Mommerency, our esteemed secops engineer, is a prime example of this. Andy has played a crucial role in obtaining the ISO27001 certification and ensuring GDPR compliance for Cloudar. Besides his key contributions towards achieving the AWS MSP competency, he acts as a bridge between our development and infrastructure teams. Let’s dive into Andy’s journey at Cloudar and hear about his experiences firsthand!

What do you like about working for Cloudar?

I think we’re really lucky to have such genuine, open-minded leadership at Cloudar. Bart, Tom and Senne prioritize work-life balance and they are always open to special requests. And it’s not just the management that stands out. Teaming up with such great colleagues has been incredibly rewarding, and there’s always a positive vibe around.

What memory or anecdote will stick with you?

Some time ago, I wanted to assess our GDPR incident procedure from a business continuity and awareness perspective. As I began preparations, the enthusiasm from other Cronos units was so overwhelming that our test transformed into a two-day drill, engaging figures like the DPO, CISO, legal team, and the cybercrime investigation team. I kept as many people in the dark as possible. The exercise kicked off with a false screenshot of forum posts suggesting a customer database leak. I even arranged for a journalist to call!

What’s your most important work milestone so far?

Without a doubt, securing the ISO27001 certificate and consistently acing our annual audits are major highlights. Additionally, this year we launched a comprehensive ‘SecOps team’ in response to growing customer demand.

Perhaps you wouldn’t call him an employee, but at Cloudar we’re not big on hierarchy. It’s up to our three managing partners to set the tone for our company culture, and in our team everyone contributes. Today we’re shining the spotlight on Tom De Blende, who makes sure we continue to raise the bar for the quality of our managed services:

What do you like about working for Cloudar?
As one of the three managing partners, I focus on operations. I ensure that our professional services engineers are scheduled for projects and feel comfortable there, and that our clients are satisfied with our Service Delivery Managers. I appreciate the great atmosphere, the no-nonsense approach and the technology. The founders of Cloudar and I have all worked for large corporations where you come up against a lot of bureaucracy and red tape. At Cloudar we put the customer first, have short decision-making processes and are very results-oriented.

What memory or anecdote will stick with you?
The Cloudar weekend away in Vielsalm in the Ardennes provided us with more than enough anecdotes to savor to this day. It had been postponed several times due to the pandemic, but when we finally managed to go, it was legendary. Unfortunately I can’t share too many details. What happens in Vielsalm…but we can’t wait until the next edition!

What’s your most important work milestone so far?
There’s two of them actually: Achieving both the Premier Consulting Partnership as well as the Managed Services Partnership (MSP) with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Those are two quality labels that are quite difficult to attain, but are a real stamp of approval from AWS. It shows that we belong to the top tier of the AWS landscape in terms of both consulting and managed services.

Cloudar believes in teamwork to make the dream work! And every member on our team has an important contribution to make. Today we’re shining the spotlight on Hannelore Bervoets, who works for us as a Cloud & DevOps Engineer in a consultancy role. Here’s what she has to say about working hard and playing hard at Cloudar:

What do you like about working for Cloudar?

The company’s strong and unique identity. It may sound a bit cliché, but for me “work hard, play hard” rings true. True experts in our specific fields, the Cloudar team is always down to “eat, drink and be merry”. Despite the global shift towards working from home, the team remains a cohesive whole. Cloudar sort of resembles a big, impressive puzzle consisting of funky puzzle pieces that somehow fit together perfectly. The importance of personal development and respect for everyone’s unique identity are core values for Cloudar’s management.

What memory or anecdote will stick with you?

Ooh, difficult choice! Driving to the Netherlands to attend a concert with colleagues straight after work, pizza buffets… Or when we were finalizing the details of my employment, and I notified Cloudar that I would be hard to reach for a few days because of the Graspop festival, and they told me that more or less half of Cloudar would be there too. That immediately boosted my eagerness to start working here. When I think about it, a lot of memorable moments have already occurred within a short timeframe, which really speaks to Cloudar’s work culture.

What’s your most important work milestone so far?

I come from a very warm, regular working-class family. Even though it was instilled in me to always try your best and work hard, this didn’t necessarily have to result in particular studies or degrees. Despite that, I did earn a bachelor’s degree and end up working in a field that’s considered a less obvious choice for women. I’ve navigated my own way professionally and don’t always follow the beaten track, and that’s something I take pride in.

We’re shining the spotlight on another amazing member of our dream team. This time we’re talking to Jimmy Brootcoorens, who facilitates communication between our team and our customers and makes sure their needs are met. Here’s what he has to say about being part of Cloudar’s journey:

What do you like about working for Cloudar?

There are many reasons why I love working for Cloudar. One of them is the no-nonsense, get-things-done mentality the team embraces. It allows us to focus on the tasks at hand and get them done efficiently and effectively. Another reason I enjoy being on the Cloudar team is that there’s a strong sense of teamwork and collaboration. Everyone is willing to pitch in and help out when needed, which makes it a very supportive and positive working environment.

Cloudar also values innovation and encourages employees to think outside the box and come up with creative solutions to problems. This not only makes work more enjoyable, but it also creates room for personal and professional growth. I’m grateful to work for a company that values collaboration and innovation, and I’m excited to see what the future holds for us.

What memory or anecdote will stick with you?

I have a distinct memory of a trip to the Scottish Highlands, where I learned about Cloudar from a friend who was already working for the company. As we drove through the winding Scottish country roads, my friend told me about how Cloudar had grown from a small two-person startup to a well-established company in the AWS cloud world. I was captivated by Cloudar’s vision for the future, and couldn’t get it out of my head. It was at that moment that I resolved to join the Cloudar team and become a part of its exciting journey in the AWS cloud computing industry.

What’s your most important work milestone so far?

For me it’s not so much about milestones but more a continuous process where I act as a bridge between our team and the customer, facilitating communication and ensuring that the customer’s needs are met by our team. I’m committed to supporting and highlighting the strengths of our team, who are the driving force behind our company’s success.

We’re so proud of our fantastic team, which is why we are continuing to spotlight each of our members. Next up: Benjamin Van der Maas, who has helped our Cloud Financial Management services keep growing and improving. Here’s what he has to say about being part of our company:

What do you like about working for Cloudar?

For me Cloudar is the best example of how it really is possible to “work to live” instead of “live to work.” Cloudar is an organization that focuses on results and gives you a lot of room to specialize and grow while shaping your own path. The no-nonsense culture and unbelievable level of technical expertise still makes me think “I can’t believe I get to be a part of this” every day.

What memory or anecdote will stick with you?

One of my most memorable moments at Cloudar was a feedback conversation that I took part in with one of our consultants. I had received negative feedback from a customer about one of our engineers back when I was Project Manager. Our managers called him in for a talk and calmly asked him about the project, how it was for him, and how it was going. At no point was the customer’s feedback used as a kind of accusation. In fact, there was no indication toward the engineer that there was a problem. At no point did they doubt their trust in their own people. Client feedback is extremely important to us and we fully welcome it, but trust in our team is at the heart of Cloudar.

What’s your most important work milestone so far?

My biggest milestone up until now is helping to shape FinOps and Cloud Financial Management within Cloudar. As Cloud Financial Management Practice Lead I help keep everything related to Cloud Financial Management and FinOps going in the right direction. Together with my colleagues I develop our best practices and ensure that Cloud Financial Management as a service develops to meet the needs of our customers. This has been a truly unique opportunity and I am so grateful for it.
